Could you please tell me what to feed a friendly
currawong who visits my garden every morning, while
Iam watering. He comes within arms reach, and I am
sure he is wanting food.

Ah, the freeloaders. He should be out cleaning off a few grasshoppers or caterpillars, whatever you pluck off while you are watering. Lift pots, see if any nice worms underneath.
Failing that, I bit of mince, but don't make him too dependant on you.

my advice nemo,

don't especially the currawong, like crows/sulphur crested cockatoos/carella's feed one you get the lot 40 or 50 or more.

and then they will never want to leave, they will rob the nests of other birds, eat fruit from your trees in general not the best bird to attract to your yard.

He may just be wanting a drink of water. If he (and other birds) looks healthy, active and cheerful, then he doesn't need you to feed him. Don't upset the balance.
In this upcoming dry period, it IS important to provide plenty of wateriing places for outside birds, preferably safe from cats.
Cheers, Jan

I wouldn't encourage him in the slightest nemo, I think they're horrible birds. We often find the remains of baby birds strangled around our clothesline which our resident currawong puts there and feeds on. I'd rather kick it up the backside than feed it.

Uncle Remiggio used to feed a coupla butcher birds with bits of raw hot dog. It was cheap and made good use of the worlds excess pigs lips and cows anuses that would otherwise be consumed by people at sporting events. The birds loved 'em and became tame enough to eat outta his hand. Then they reproduced and the babies came and ate the pigs lips and anuses too. How cute. I say go for it !

I get kurrawongs here at my place as well, they like the bugs same as the noisy minors and also eat berries and other fruit, though crows, magpies, owls and kurrawongs all kill smaller creatures, including baby birds, rats and mice, its natures way and I dont hate them for it.
