Sometime during the night my Jude the Obscure got damaged..possibly a cat jumping off my fence. Anyway one whole cane was torn off and has left a crater in the main trunk. I am concerned about disease getting in. Should I prune the area and lose half the bush or can I just put some tape around it?

I would tape it up, we have rescued lots of branches torn like that after the Cyclones and they have survived. Mind you they were not roses, but there were plenty of soft wooded Hibiscus. Sorry to hear about your rose , its terrible when things like that happen and yours is such a pretty one. I do hope it recovers ok ..Cheers..MM.

Good thanks for that I will give that a try. The bit I would have had to prune off is loaded with fat buds and I would have hated to lose them. thanks pam
