Snails, Shell grit & Liliums

Hello everyone. I have lots of baby liliums, most of which I have raised from seed. I have a major snail & slug problem. My daylilies are suffering as well. I have tried everything, even beer, but they are not interested or maybe I am not using the right brand. I checked some web sites on organic solutions and one of them suggested shell grit. Does anyone know if the salt content will hurt lilium seedlings or is the amount of salt in the grit so low that I am worrying about nothing?
Hope someone has an answer.

Hi Kerry, have your thought to wash the grit, soak it for a few hours then strain thru a cloth or a piece of shade cloth, you only need to wash off the salt.

Alternately you can use sand, or clay-based cat litter scattered around your plants. The snails won't crawl accross it.

Hi, I have found just wash the shell grit and place around the top of the pot of the new seedlins the same with egg shells when finished with the egg put the shells ( stockpile them till you get enough and put them in the oven when you have takenout the sunday roast the remaining heat will dry out the shells, then break them all up and scatter around the plant you want to protect.

you can try coffee grounds
If you have a starbucks near you the will give it to you for free (they are used )but also if you mix some instant coffee in a spray bottle and spray the plants and surounding aras the wont touch it
I yet to try as I have just lost 100 seedlings to the gastropod but will try when i propergate some kangaroo paw
