Help Needed Please

I need some advice regarding some plants I need to remove for one day only while our dividing fence is repaired after it half fell down in a recent storm. The contractors have asked that they have easy access to the fence which means I need to dig up some plants while they are repairing the fence. The smaller plants won't be a problem, but I have a couple of roses particularly which I'm a bit concerned about. One is a beautiful climbing Blue Moon which has really taken off this season. It has lots of new foliage and some beautiful buds and flowers and covers most of the trellis which is attached to the fence. Should I dig it up and plant it in a pot for the day as is, or should I lightly prune it so it's more manageable, or.... Also I have Molineux which has put on lots of height this season and I'm wondering if I should lightly prune that as well and lose some beautiful buds in the process. I am also concerned that by disturbing them at this early stage of the season I might stunt their progress for the remainder of the season, so I'm wondering what the best thing is to do. I have to move them, but I would like to disturb them as little as possible. Any help is appreciated. TIA

I wouldn't even bother with pots. Just dig them up and pop them in the shade, on a piece of plastic or a bag for easy lifting. If you want to retain the height of the blue moon, just lightly prune away any bits that make it awkward to move. Make sure you take a large clump of soil around it's roots, and try and keep that attached. Slippin a bag under the plant after you have dug around it, and before you lift it, will help to retain the soil. You can pull the bag (use a large, heavy duty garbage bag) up around the sides and tie it if you want to make it more secure. You will disturb the roots far less like that, than if you try and stuff it into a pot.
I have done quite a bit of digging, shifting, and putting back, out of season, over the last year, with our rather major house renovation. You still have plenty of time for your roses to make new growth. Perhaps a good watering before you lift them would help?
Cheers, Jan

With the cool spring weather and lots of rain this yer, there should not be much of a problem. Just don't forget the Seasol and/or Stress Guard when putting them back. Cheers

RE: Help Needed Please

Both the above sound like good advice. Good luck, hope all survive.
