Splitting passionfruit

Well, maybe not splitting. A few of my passionfruits have developed what looks like splits or cracks or 'veins' on the fruit. Any idea what might be causing this?

It sounds very much like they have suffered from a lack of water. Passionfruit vines have a very shallow root system, so it is important to keep the soil moist at all times (mulching well will help), BUT, be careful not to waterlog the soil either because they can suffer from root rot.
Cheers,
Dee.

Lack of water, hey? That sounds likely, with the water restrictions up here. Thanks.

Should the fruit turn out okay? We've had plenty of rain lately.

Josh, it depends how deep the cracks are. Even if they don't go right in, you will possibly find a rather dried out looking pulp, which I would imagine would make them pretty useless. Nevertheless, you've already got them, so you might as well wait and see. Good luck,
Cheers,
Dee.

How old is your vine ? They have limited life, probably 5 years, then you need to put a new one in.

Maybe that could be a cause of your splitting fruit.

It's only its second year, and only a few of the fruit have the cracks. Should be mostly okay, I guess.
