My name change and cream clivia

Wasn't sure where to post this and it's a bit off topic ... name changed from Amelie (my daughter's name) to Treeluver. Yeah, I know, it grates a bit for me to spell it like that ... correct spelling of word not available unfortunately. I am not a new person, just a changed one.
PS. So I don't get into trouble ... I saw tiny (about 6 leaves and 15 cm tall) cream clivias at Big W - $16ish! Tempting but too expensive. They had a large one in flower for $50. Very nice indeed.

lol...Treeluver, you could have posted this over on the Conversations area and been safe....:) I bought three cream/yellow clivia's earlier this year and have been lucky enough to have two flower....I can tell you I was soooo excited to see the buds come up. I think the BigW clivia's sound quite a reasonable price myself. I paid $33 for two and I think $39 for the other. Then I hunted one down for my sister's birthday present and paid $46 for a pot of two that sound about the same size as the $16 ones.

Umm, I may reconsider the clivia purchase ... probably would have bought it, but we have severe water restrictions at the moment, so that swayed it for me. Still, there are always buckets ....
Thought about posting on "conversations" but it's a bit slow over there at times - more exposure here hopefully.

I found cliveas are pretty tough. A friend of mine dug her orange ones out, she could not decide what to do with them and kept them for about two months in late summer in a dry corner next to her rubbish bins, roots exposed just abandoned like that. My heart was bleeding so after those two months I suggested that she gave them to me to 'baby sit', and then she could decide if she wants them or not. Well 6 months down the track they have their first buds. I must admit that I planted eight of them in the ground, I left two in pots just in case she wants them back. My point is that I would plant the cream one even with water restrictions (I am green with envy, I have not seen a cream one yet)

Judy will have Cliveas for sale at our Open Garden in November including yellow but you will have to be early.

Meggs....I got one of mine from Bunnings, the other two from Everbloom in Sawyers Valley, and the one for my sister at a nursery along Hale Rd, a small nursery, Oasis???? If I see another on my travels I shall let you know.

I agree with Meggs, they are tough, recommended for dry shade, I hope you managed to get one, Treeluver....you are quite correct, it can be a tad slow over there....:)

Nope, haven't been back to the shop to get one - might try to get one of Ian's instead. Ian, do you know if the flower will be cream or yellow (and if so will yours be labelled?), or is it just the luck of the draw?
