Sparaxis iris ?

Hello Sparaxis,
I can see you are the iris specialist on this forum. Could you please give me a few bearded iris names in colours from mauve, pink, up to purple. I have two, do not know their names as I received them from people replanting theirs. The purple one is usually very top heavy and flops, although the colour is beautiful. The other one is white and this one is great, stands tall and looks beautiful in clumps. The flowers are smaller than the purple ones. I would like to plant some more. |

No can do. There are over 70,000 registered tall bearded irises. Many, many are purple, mauve, pink, etc. There is no way you can just pick a name and get it right. Even the best photos on the internet are not accurate. If you know who you got them from, they might know the names, or know which ones they have in that colour range. White is even harder to find the name for - most whites look exactly the same. Sorry, but your irises will be no less lovely without their name tags. You may just have the old species type, Iris germanica (purple) and Iris albicans (white - often misnamed Iris florentina). If you post photos on the gallery, I would be able to tell you if this is the case. Cheers, Jan |
