We once had these 'ant cows' on our plums during a drought in South Africa. They are composed on a cluster of aphis that look like one bug but are actually a group feeding on the tree sap. They were actually fascinating to watch as the ants would 'milk' the cow for its nectar or body fluids and carry droplets back to the nest. If this is what you've got then it's imperative to get rid of the ants as well as the aphids things. Soapy water is the best to get rid of the aphis. I felt quite sorry to destroy such a relationship. On a folk lore side of things if you get infestations of ants it is supposed to be that you are neglecting family for work! Cosmic |
