How do I fertilise water bamboo?

Hi all,
I have some of that lucky bamboo growing in bottles on my window sill in water, and I was thinking surely they need something else other than water for them to reach their full potential?
I was thinking of just using something like thrive soluble but at what strength???
Any other ideas.....
Thanks all,
Cheers, Mel...

RE: How do I fertilise water bamboo?

Water/lucky bamboo are essentially water struck cuttings of Dracaena sanderiana. They aren't true aquatics/emergents so, while they'll survive in water for the short term at least, they'll do much better in soil as a houseplant/tropical garden plant. If you want to keep it in water, using about 1/10 dilution of any complete fertiliser in the water should suffice. Change the water/fertiliser every few weeks. The low light conditions houseplants are subjected to limits their nutrient demands so adding any more fertiliser is probably a waste. Bear in mind that adding fertiliser to the water may result in algal growth. If this is a problem consider foliar feeding instead.
