Clinging creeper

Hi all
I was wondering if anyone knows the name of a small leaved clinging creeper. It has dark green leaves and grows very close to walls and fences ie doesn't have branches sticking out. The leaves are only about 2cms or 3/4in long. The clingers are like small roots.
Also do these clinging creepers cause problems, like becoming weeds. I plan to grow one on a hardwood paling fence.
I plant to take cuttings from one not far from home
Any thoughts? |

| It sounds like a ficus - do a google search. I don't think they are vigorous anough to cause a weed problem. They do need a lot of water though. |

| Sounds very much like Ficus pumilo, a lovely sef clinging climber. Can be quite strong and its only drawback is that if it reaches "mid-air" it will go 'arborescent' or tree like and it will change its form to something dramatically different with strong far reaching stems and larger leaves. If kept well pruned,it is possible to keep it in its original form. |

| Thanks. It appears it is Ficus Pumila. I spent ages searching yesterday and not one reference to a climbing fig. Now I know what it is I can get some info on it. |

Hi Pepino, I personally wouldn't grow one on a paling fence. It's habits are extremely similar to ivy. When a thin branch creeps between the palings it's fine, but all of a sudden that thin stem becomes thick and woody and starts popping your palings off. By the way, the common name is creeping fig not climbing fig, that's probably why you couldn't find much information on it. Cheers, Dee. |

| Good point Dee. I don't really want to be mending fences. Thanks. |
