Anyone using/used an enviromower?

Hello all you fantastic people out there!

My poor mower of 25+ yrs has finally given up the ghost - no amount of rebuilding/replacing parts will bring her back to life. So, in all my browsing for a new one, I have come across the enviromower. Looks good, easy to use and maintain, etc, etc, etc. I have posted this also on the lawnmowing forum in the hope of getting an honest opinion on what people REALLY think about it, not the jumped up sales pitch of websites and salespeople.

Looking forward to reading your good/bad experiences and thoughts on it...

RE: Anyone using/used an enviromower?

Hi greenfinger. Sorry I dont know anything about them either but like you I got on to their site and it all looks very interesting, I am on the lookout for a new mower we have two as living on a 3/4 acre block we need both, Hubby uses the big Mulch and catch and I get the lighter one and at present it is blowing smoke like crazy and right into my face when mowing. Seeing that it is a lighter mower sound good, but sight unseen that could be a bit dicey. They do have a shop in Preston Victoria a triffle to far from here though.

Then I would need two batteries as 80 minutes of mowing would not complete my block if I was doing it all which I often do, then there is the blades you would have to have a few sets on hand just in case as you cannot pop down to the local shop and pick up a set, they say you can sharpen them, we used to when we had the big ride-on as hubby made the blades himself, but cannot on the ones we have now, so that would be a bonus.

My block has sticks and stones on it, we always pick up branches, and stone and glass that pops up when we get those heavy downpours but always seem to miss something so I would like to know if that mower is only good for a bowling green lawn or more of a bush type block like mine, they have a toll free number but being salespeople they will tell you anything so I will be waiting to see what gets posted here also. Cheers..MM.

Hi MM,

Yeah, I liked the lightness of it too - our lawns are on split levels so I have to lug the mower up and down a set of stairs, which is not fun!

I'm pretty sure 1 battery would last our section...so long as I didn't let the lawns get away on me! Our lawns aren't in pristene bowling-green condition (I wish!) but otherwise o.k. We don't have to contend with too much - just the odd Cabbage Tree leaf that I've missed picking up, and the mulch the birds are constantly scratching out of the gardens! My old mower never said boo once to the missed leaves - I wonder if an enviromower would turn its toes up on them?

The thing that I'm a bit iffy about is the blades - with my existing mower I got the blades sharpened, maybe, once every 2 years if I was lucky (yeah I know, maintenance is paramount and all that!). The frequency that the website talks about swapping and sharpening blades, etc, makes me think that perhaps the blades are not as robust as those on a petrol mower???

On adding it up, it'd cost NZ$823 for the mower plus a spare battery and cutting blade(just in case!), which is on par with many other mowers on the market here. Plus there is a dealer just down the road from me, so I have been able to see one close up. My biggest concern is wether it'd last the distance, or would I end up always dragging the thing into repair shops wishing I'd spent the $$$ on a tried and true brand!

Regards,
GF

If my experience of this firm is anything to go by - save your money.

I bought a set of their electric pruners which failed after just two charges; their replacements failed after one charge and the third set after one charge.

And what do Enviromower have to say? I have no idea. In spite of several emails to several of their addresses they have declined even to acknowledge me.

Customer care? They don't even know the meaning of the term.

Thats good to know Richard..

But not good for us is it, lots of companies like that now days.
We have decided to get a Honda buffalo mower next time as we get good customer care from our mower shop

RE: Anyone using/used an enviromower?

Just to let you all know that I did finally get my money back - but neither Enviromower nor their successors have deigned to reply to me. The UK importers have been in touch (no doubt prompted by my posting here) but they, too, refuse to accept that the pruners are not up to the job; indeed, they refuse even to answer or even acknowledge the question.

I have now bought a set of Chinese electric pruners that cost less that 20% of the cost of the Enviromower items and, so far, they have not failed.

I'm sure you'll do well with your Honda; they have built their reputation on good quality and good customer care.

have been landscaper(gardenscapes) greenkeeper for birghton croquet club vic, and mowing round. had first model environmower with edger attacment, although never used the attachmnet. In my opinion, best mower ever used had mine for 8 years until my young labradoodle chewed through main multi strand copper wire. I am now looking for the latest model. my old unit had hard work but met the bill, like any mower once grass is high, you need to do it in stages, my battery pack was still going after the 8 years but was only lasting about an hour. the key start is easy, no streching arms and replacing broken cord and saves alot of excess language. you can stand beside the operating machine and continue with a normal voice level and not disturb neighbours. lightweigh and replacement blades are cheap although I did not need to as i sharpened them myself. I have 1/2 acre and as I am not working can do it in 2 stages, but I did get the hour and half whern I bought my first one. no maintenance whatsoever and very safe
