Lawn problems ... burning?

| We had new front lawn laid in autumn - Sir Walter buffalo. It settled in quite well, but as the weather warms up now, we are having a real problem where it meets the concrete gutter. A strip about 30cm wide is dying off quite dramatically. The soil was quite dry and when I watered it ran off, so I added wetting agent. I have fed and watered the whole lawn, but this one strip remains distinctly drier and dead-looking. Yet the rest of the lawn is lush and green.
Someone suggested to me that the concrete gutter could be heating up from the sun, and cooking the lawn roots beside it, causing this die back. Has anyone heard of this previously? and if so, what could I do about it? I don't water much at all - that's why I got Sir Walter. But I don't want it to all die either. The previous lawn was kikuyu (aghh!) and I don't remember this problem with it. |

| Could it be something leaching out of the concrete. you may need to put some sort of barrier between concrete and lawn, maybe stand a thin strip of black plastic on its edge??? and dig in a small trench??? Just a thought.... |

Hi Deb, If you had your lawn laid professionally, I would suggest contacting them about this problem. Even if you did it yourselves, you could ask your supplier for ideas. It might be more common than you think! Cheers, Dee. |
