Thanks people, so about 10 to 14 days, I am so excited, I kinda hoped for that new's but then didn't like to ask, in case of disappointment, and Dave, I am normally the most patient person you could meet, but after last year, I am willing to admit I was impatient, I am so patient I drive friends mad! even as a child, I will not open presents until the DAY! more fun that way the anticipation, but I with these boys, hadn't a clue, Dad and Pops only did purple sprouting broccoli, and my Dad called what farmerdilla showed brilliantly calibrese, and that is exactly what I asked about, so thanks for the Photo, great info as always, your, clueless of CT :-)

Dana, If you read the third paragraph from the bottom, the third sentence in that paragraph states Many cultivars will continue producing bonus side shoots as long as a few leaves are left on the plant. This can extend the harvest period for a month or more. This directly answers your question "I want to know what to do now that I harvested my broccoli. Should I cut it back?" Broccoli is an annual plant, not a perennial. It does not come back for a second harvest the following year or any year after that. You have to plant more the following year from seeds or transplants. Does this answer your questions about broccoli? Well, I am doing an experiment growing broccoli for the first time but I planted the seedlings in the fall. Sounds like a good bet--might even try one square of them at 6-inch spacing, since your soil is far richer than the average bed, and you can plant shallow leaf lettuces around the brocs. With occasional use of thermal row cover, you should be able to garden year 'round in the Carolinas. Year before last, my peppers survived 3-day freezes uncovered--only the top layer of leaves died back at each freeze. I had red peppers on plants on January 1. The tomatoes (trellised on wire fencing) lost their leaves, but the green stems and roots continued to grow out the "marbles" I had left on the branches, and even set a few new fruits during warm spells. I had fresh maters in early December. And those were mainly just Celebrities, IIRC. All the best for a fabulous Fall!
