I'm planning to leave my veggie garden, in which I grew great tomatoes, fallow during the summer. (it just gets tooo hot)
To rejuvinate the tired soil I thought a crop of green manure
like buckwheat might be appropriate. Any other suggestions and where do I source the seeds in the Tweed area??
Add a legume like beans to the buckwheat to tart it up a little. I'm using a combination of peas (just cheap supermarket soup peas) and mixed birdseed (also cheap from the spermarket) during this cool early spring. But buckwheat's good for summer because it's a fast grower and can be slashed for mulch in no time at all. I guess the birdseed would be good too.
