Do worms in worm farms tolerate tomatoes?

g'day genny,

not real sure but assume you mean the tomato fruit? they will eat that like they will most things, but if you mean tomato plants growing in the farm can't see as that would cause them too many dramas either.

If you mean will they eat it - yep. But cut into fairly small pieces so it goes quickly ... or sometimes it grows!

If you are talking about tomatoes growing, yes.

I had my welder husband make me up a couple of troughs a several years ago to grow plants in. They are about 2m long x .5m wide x .5m deep on legs to bring it to waist height. I lined this with shadecloth and weedmat and filled it with compost, manure and put in some compost worms. I have these troughs near my back door to grow small things like lettuce, tomatoes, dwarf peas, etc and they grow very well. I top them up with compost or manure when necessary. The worms breed extremely well. The only problem I had was during a heat wave we had trouble with our pump on the dam and I couldn't keep water up them so the worms overheated and died. As long as the troughs stayed moist the worms seemed to thrive.
