Is it OK to colour the water

| The eyes are not as good as they used to be and I find it very hard to see where the water line is when I fill the sprayer up I was making a batch of Triforine this morning to spray on the roses and I needed about 5 lts, but I could not see the line so I raided the panty and put some pink cochineal food colouring in.
Only trouble was the two drops I put in did not make a difference in 5lts of water so I put a bit more in, trouble was about a 1/2 teaspoon of the colouring went in.
Will that harm my Roses or any plants for that matter when I am adding a colourless liquid and put it in because I cannot see, If it is safe for humans it must be safe for plants right, would love to know. Cheers...MM. |

Hi MM, If you use a natural food colouring such as cochineal like you did, I can't possibly imagine that it would harm your plants. When I was a little girl, I heard my Father remarking on how he loved petals that had various markings on them (like pansies). I took this rather literally and brought out my little set of water colour paints and proceeded to 'improve' almost the entire garden. I can tell you that nothing was affected by my artistic talents, although I don't think Dad was all that impressed! Cheers, Dee. |

I also can't imagine any harm. I can remember using some sort of plug-on-the hose sprayer pack one time (might have been fertilzer) that had a colour added, I thought it was a great idea as you could see where you had "been" and avoid over-spraying. |
