Suggestions on what to plant

I have a narrow strip (approx 450mm) of soil within our pool enclosure. It runs the length of a wall and is aobut 10m long. It gets the full, blazing, Queensland, summer sun and also cops salt water when the pool overflows.
I've tried mondo grass - hates the salt
Kangaroo paw - Looked promising but died after seeming to get set
Dwarf Rheo - Went well but over the winter seemed to dry out on the ends and now looks terrible.

Can anybody give me a suggestion as to what might take the heat and salt.

I don't know your area well enough to suggest a specific plant, but I can suggest a method of choosing that has worked really well for me:

When driving around your local area, check out what is growing on median strips, beside the road etc, and look for something you like. It's guaranteed to do well in your climate, and be the ultimate in low maintenance gardening - particularly coping with no watering and serious heat reflected from the road surface. Plus it is likely to cope with any number of chemicals and fumes (hopefully salt being one of them).

You'd be surprised what lovely stuff you find this way!

Lomandra is pretty tough. I would be surprised if this didn't survive. The humidity probably affected the kangaroo paws, especially near the pool.

The native Hibertias will take the heat and salt. There are many types, including ground covers and climbers. Some have prickly leaves which you would want to avoid, and some have soft fleshy leaves which hold water. They all have simple bright yellow flowers over a long period. Most will grow larger than the space you have but are easy to clip back.

What about dietes? I'm not sure about the salt but they are tough.

Hazel.

Salt bush - I don't know what the botanical name is. But like it's name suggests, it tolerates salt and is green and leafy. It grows in WA coastal areas, so should certainly tolerate Qld heat.

You may want to consider other coastal plants.

I have seen wedding bush grow very well in coastal areas, but when it flowers it may drop lots of white petals which, with a pool, may annoy the beegeesus out of you.
