What is it with earthworms?

My husband has just been cleaning out the gutters and remarked that he had found quite a number of earthworms in the sludge. We got to wondering how on earth do they get there? I can understand seed dispersal from bird droppings, but do they ingest earthworms eggs???? Does anyone know? Just so curious!
Cheers,
Dee. |

They climb up the walls. In heavy rain my walls are covered with worms trying to escape the flood.

They are distant relatives of "THE DROP BEAR"

Very funny Jaqueline!! lol. Meggs, that makes sense but around here we don't really have floods and I have never seen earthworms on the walls, so I'm still a bit puzzled. Cheers, Dee.

Well Dee, it is not floods in our sense, it is floods in the worm world. It is enough to have water invading their tunnels to force them to climb walls. However, I think yours might be 'wondering' worms, they just want to explore :-).

Maybe they aren't earthworms maybe they are gutter worms or roof worms.

I found one in an indoor potplant that had never lived outside. Wondered who kept throwing bits of potting mix out of the pot for me to clean up!
