Agapanthus Problem

Posted by lel7 Victoria (My Page) on

Hi,

My puppy has squashed the leaves of the agapanthus growing in our garden bed and we are trying to grow them back (we have chicken wire around the garden now).... the leaves are growing back but they are very small and thin and dont appear very strong, they have been this size for a few months now. Will these regrow to full size?? im worried that because it is a very small garden bed there is not enough room left in the soil for new rooting systems????

Any help would be much appreciated!
Lesley

RE: Agapanthus Problem

Agapanthus are almost un-killable. Do you know what type you have? Some are deciduous and some are evergreen. Whatever form though, I would not expect them to have been making much growth over winter.
So, yes, theoretically if there has been no damage underground to the plants, they should grow back vigorously in warmer months.
One word of caution, if you have a small garden bed you may need to re-think because Aggies can have a very substantial root system which makes it almost impossible for anything else to grow close by them, and also makes them a job and a half when its time to divide them.
