Lucky Bambo - Getting Big..

Hi all,
My lucky bamboo is doing really well, have had it for nearly 12 months and it has grown so much. But, I've got these 20cm leafy stalks growing at the top and I was just wondering if I should cut them and make new ones????
What is the general advice for care and upkeep of these amazing creatures? Mine is planted in soil, not water.
Thanks, Mel....

Hi Mel,

I have a few bamboos and yes the stalks will root in water. I leave mine in a glass on the sill above the sink.

All of mine are in large vases with coloured pebbles to hold them in place. The larger the vase the less often you have to add water.
I also have a bamboo fertiliser which I use occasionally.
As mine are indoor plants I give them a holiday outside when they need pepping up.

I am interested to hear about your bamboo in the soil, I'd like to try it.

g'day mel,

yes you can that is after all how the plant you own was first created, they will grow in the garden as well being a common dracaena.

so yo can cut your canes down to just above a nodule where new shoots will sprout then stand the others in water untill they root and then feature them in some container or other. even grow them in a pot for a pot culture indoors.
