| just wondering if any-one has been successful at growing these plants in the ground, and what the conditions were in which they grew. I've tried the usual google thing, and looked up reference texts, but haven't come across much useful info re this.
I've grown these in the past, in pots, but these are now deceased :-) (I think neglect and forgetfulness during a house move was the cause) I have two new plants, which I was thinking of planting out in the garden, as the garden terrorist I'm raising (the 10mth old pup) seems to leave my garden plants alone, and just attack stray pots. |

| Is this the pretty little pinkish purple orchid that dies back in winter? If so, I grew it very successfully in the ground - well a raised bed filled with "topsoil"- some years ago. It had a westerly aspect, with some protection from a large spotted gum planted about 4 or 5 metres west of it, so it was a pretty warm and sunny position but not extreme. Grew and flowered like topsy. When we moved, I put some in a bed with an easterly aspect, light soil again, but neglected it some, and it got a bit overgrown by the erigeron. I think the major issue was lack of sun (I've a MUCH bigger garden and commute to work now - so much to remember). I've been meaning to move it, but I think I might have accidentally buried it in the dark just recently, when on an unusually early scrap burying run. Can't see it anywhere. Oh well, and I consciously tried to avoid where I thought it was, maybe some will turn up in spring- or I might be looking for a vendor cause it's really worth growing if you make it happy :o) |

| Hi Ashke, I grew Bletilla striata in the UK. I grew it in dappled shade in the garden in the south west of England. I also know that this plant was grown in a border at Kew Royal Bot. Gdns in London. In that situation it was growing in full sun and looked really healthy. Of course full sun in Sydney and full sun in London are not quite the same thing :-) Good luck it's a great plant - there's a white form out there somewere which is also beautiful. Cheers Jan |
