Hi, Some info which may be of interest. some time ago, years, I spoke to an aged gent at a garage sale where he was selling staghorns and elkhorns which he had grown from spores. From what I remember of the conversation, this is what he did, bearing in mind that this was an outer suburb of Brisbane with very rich soil and when we still had excessive humidity, ( unlike now.) He used to take the spores and place them on the damp earth floor of his fernhouse and cover with thick damp hessian bag. This had to remain damp to wet, every so often he lifted the bag gently to see how germination was going. When the new stags were a certain size he placed them on top of the damp hessian until they were big enough to mount on timber ,bark, tree etc. To do this he always used an old piece of towel underneath the stag to hold moisture and give the plant a better chance of survival. Hope this helps.....m
