Bougainvilleas and bonsai

I've read that Bougs resent root disturbance, so how does one deal with the root pruning necessary to bonsai them?

I must say that is interesting, I dig mine up and transplant all the time when they dont preform well in certain places. I have one here that I have moved four times from under a tree to a pot, where it took off so I put it in a hanging basket, bad idea so its now in the ground in the open.

I have seen Bonsai Bougainvillea's so I know that they do alright. Maybe you have to be gentle with them just when you transplant or maybe the author does not have a green thumb, as it states the same thing in one of my Gardening books but I dont have any trouble root disturbance or not....Cheers...MM

Thanks MM. I guess I'll just go ahead and hack it then - nothing ventured, nothing gained, don't they say?
