| This time last year I bought a weeping white cherry tree bare rooted. I did not prune it when I planted it. Should I prune it now before it flowers? Am I too late to prune it? How hard doI prune it back? Just that I cannoyt find any assistance on the internet re these plants and when to prune.
Your asssisatance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

| My guess is that you would remove any branches that show strong upward growth. You would not want to shorten the weeping brnaches as that would defeat the purpose :-) Also you might just generally tidy up any inside branches, mainly for aesthetic reasons. Also look out for anything growing from below the graft and remove it. Cherries as a rule (including fruiting varieties) are best not heavilly pruned, as they tend to decline. Just be gentle with it. Now should be fine. Anytime would do really as you will not be removing the long flowering branches anyway. Cheers, Jan |

| Thanks Jan U may hae saved me some heartache, I was going to prune it quite hard !!! So best not to remove the weeping branches? Dont have any upward gowth on any branches, is weeping quite well down. May as u say just give a little tidy up. Thanks heaps |

| Although I know nothing about this particular plant, as a general rule you prune after flowering - not before. |
