combi mowers

Hi,

Anyone know anything about the sort of rotary mower that offers the option of either collecting the clippings or mulching them? Having one machine in the shed rather than two would be very convenient.

My concern would be that neither function works particularly well as a compromise probably wouldn't be as good as dedicated machines. Any thoughts anyone?

g'day beggar,

a lot of the top of range models (they may work the best) offer this dual function as do some of the cheaper discounter models. for my way of seeing it much like you say the composting bit won't work as well as if you buy a mower designed to do that job and that job alone. the normal grass catching function will work as it should with the dual models. this dual idea probably got more to do with manufacturers holding as much market as they can by appearing to be eco' friendlier than what they are.

reckon there will be a lot of attachments out their just collecting dust in the back of the garden shed. 'bolens' used to make an exlusively mulching mower and it worked realy well especially designed to do so.

for us nothing beats the flymo/husquvarna hand mower once the operator learns how to look after the blades and keep them cutting in optimum condition, they lay an even cliped grass that settles into the lawn and break down and without all the noise.

Hi GardenLen,

You've confirmed my thoughts on combi's. I'll stick to what I've got. Another idea bites the dust.

Thanks for your reply.
