Trees For Tubs - Perth

| I am something of a novice gardener and am looking for suggestions as to smallish trees/large shrubs that are fairly quick growing and that I could grow in large tubs to be placed in an open, sunny courtyard, sheltered and no frost.
I was wondering whether perhaps citrus or frangipani might be suitable or whether someone could offer some other suggestions?
I have managed, somehow, to keep alive 2 large Benjamin Figs (I think that's what it is ) in big tubs on wheels and I would love to have a few more plants of a similar size and robustness but different varieties. I find it very useful to move them around for shade, screening etc.
However, I am far from expert at gardening and would appreciate any suggestions or advice. Like all new gardeners, "quick growing and easy care" are my watchwords !
Thank you |

| I have a couple of Banksias in large tubs, and they are growing very well. If you are in Perth, you are very lucky since you have many wonderful local Banksias to choose from. If you want to go down this path, choose species which grown no more than about 2m, and once they are in, just leave them there. |

| yes any sort of fig tree grows fast and is easy to look after but may outgrow your tubs(they dont mind being root bound or having there roots pruned and make great bonsai's). What about a bay leaf tree(can use it in cooking also). A citrus treeS good(need more fertilising/pruning though). Yeah frangipani but they loose all there leave so are'nt very good for screening. There would be heaps you could plant in a sunny, sheltered court yard with no frost..maybe ask your local nursery. |
