Emily, some need cold, others a cycle and some just 20oC. What species are you sowing?

A. schubertii and A. aflatunense 'Purple Sensation' may need stratification. Sow at 20oC for a few weeks then cool them down to 4-5oC for 5-6 weeks then move to a higher temperature. If you are in a cold area then just leave them in the weather to do their own thing. Usually A. vineale is a weed but the variety is probably not like that. It may not come true from seed though. Will probably germinate at 20oC? Where did you get the seeds? I think fresh is best. |

thanks for that lomatia, i'll give them a go. i get all my seeds from garden web traders, so they have just arrived from a cold climate overseas, so i guess i should just leave them outside, temperate climate here.

They may need the cold after they have been sown. i.e. after they have imbibed water.

oh good, because this morning i took them out of the hothouse (just there long enough to get some water)and into the fridge, so with a little luck that will be the cyle, i have heard that sometimes they even germinate in the fridge!
