Biblical Jasmine

| I have a pot of Biblical Jasmine, also called 'Grand Duke of Tuscany' or Jasminum sambac. The flowers have a magnificent scent.
However I would like to put it in a spot that gets a fair bit of shade. Has anyone had any experience of this plant in a shady spot? Would it flower as much? |

| Full sun to partial shade seems to be the consensus about its growing conditions. Apparently it will grow more vine-like in shade, and have a more compact bushy growth in full sun. My guess is that flowering will be reduced with increased shade. The perfume is indeed magnificent, with undertones of something delicious (peach?)--its my favourite jasmine scent. Star jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides) would probably be a better choice for a heavily shaded spot. |

| Robert I have one in a pot on the verandah and it would only get a little morning sun - has never flowered very much. Am going to try it in the sun. |

| Another idea: take some cuttings of the jasmine before planting it in the shaded spot. That way you'll have backup plants if the original dies. (Or you could plant the cuttings in the shaded spot first, to see how they do.) |
