Will gerberas grow in part shade?

| I'd like to move some gerberas from pots to a garden bed that gets half sun (at best) and half shade.
Will this be okay or do they really need sun all day? |

I have grown them in a similar position in Victoria where they needed the frost protection. They seemed to do OK and bloomed, but I have limited experience growing them. Cheers, Jan |

Yes they will grow in that position I grow lots of Gerbera and now that the plants behind them have grown so tall they miss out on a lot of the sun and still manage to flower even with those few hours late in the afternoon. I was talking to my neighbour today as she has a long raised bed running the width of the house and has them under the eaves and now that the sun is high overhead she was saying that the ones at the back are not growing as good as the ones in the front row or in the open garden. So that means they will grow and flower in partical shade, but still prefer a sunny spot when first transplanted after that they would probably be ok to me I think it is more the warmth that the sun itself if that makes sense....MM. |
