RE: a/c outlet

there is some chat around the web about this at present especially here in aus' it seems it is suitable for water plants though some say the salt level could be a tad higher than normal, this may of course be a local issue with that supply?

at the very least mix it 50/50 with fresh or other water it shouldn't ne too mauch worry especially if you share it around.

Hey by a/c do you mean air con? Sorry am an air con electrician and as funny as it sounds I don't know the normal persons way to describe it.

We have wall box type air con / heater that drips all over our big standard fuchsia, it has another fuchsia in the same position about a metre away that doesn't recieve this water. The one directly under the a/c has gone extremely well this year because the amount of hot days that we have had and the amount of water from the air con.

However this is condensation from around the coil of the unit and could differ from what you are collecting from your ac unit.

Thanks for the replies Len & dead easy. The a/c I have is not the evap but the r/cycle...sorry I should have mentioned that before...so there may be a difference, this one would give out upto 25lt per day.

g'day bricall,

if there is a salt issue with the water maybe do the tip of the tongue taste test that is take a smear of water on yor finger tip and touch it to the tip of you tongue, that way you will figure if it is sweet salty to very salty.

at the very least i would suggest mix it 50/50 with fresh water that will give you 50 litres of water a day, or buy one of those 220 litre plastic drums to store the water in for a bit for convenience.

if you have a pool shop near by they may even do a salt test for you even if they charged a small fee you would then know hey?

Could you explain where the salt would come from in this water? I would have thought it would be more like rain water as it is only moisture condensed from the air passing through the aircon. Sorry if I am wrong.

Dave.

I'm wondering about the salt too.

RE: a/c outlet

I can't imagine it being salty at any stage of the process, the trouble I thought could be a chemical of any kind leaking from the unit itself and perhaps being bad for a plant. I know that sounds unlikely but being a sparky you come to expect the unexpected with things like this.
Otherwise if it is just condensation I can't see a problem as it is like any other condensation just unnaturally brought about by the ac unit rather than the weather.
