 o
wisteria side shoots dieing off

I have an 2 year old wisteria planted in the ground, it is seemingly growing well from the two main growing shoots, inspite of the appalling weather we have had this summmer- extreme aridity and very high temperatures for the last 4 weeks.
The side shoots seem to start well, reach about 8 inches long then die back. Any suggestions for the cause?
The wisteria is planted on the south side of the house, gets the morning sun, is watered because of the current conditions, and has been composted, mulched etc. in the spring.
regards
Dorothy

Sounds like its stressed. You should prune Wisteria as soon as it finishes flowering so it can put strength into next year's growth. Bit like Banksia Roses.
