| What a evening we had here South of Brissie, even the floor boards vibrated with the noise of the thunder, gosh I let out a few screams myself as I though the house had been struck my lightening at one stage and it went on for about two hours, we lost a few branches on the Gum trees but everything else is OK.
And as I did the rounds just after 5am letting the chooks out, gee do they love the wet soil they go berserk practially flying around their piece of "Chooky Heaven" looking for all the insects that got knocked out by the storm I can almost hear their joy, and mine too as I look into the rain gauge and find the middle tube full and much more in the outer cylinder I could hardly believe it as it added up to 61mm the most we have had for well over a year.
And as I walk back from clearing all the branches off the driveway I reckon I can hear the Garden sighing with delight at all that liquid sunshine they received during that past evening and the birds are all crirping everyone is happy me too what a wonderful beginning to a beautiful day....Cheers..MM.

| Good about the rain, sorry about the noise and damage. We had about 4mls and some distant rumbles though at least it cooled things down after it went through. We were having trouble sleeping because it was so muggy. Love the bird, very pretty |

| We had some good rain here as well and the lightening was a good show. I have been helping a friend with landscaping his new property. He is high on a hill and I can look across in your direction MM. We saw the thunderstorm over there late yesterday. Our yard looks excellent this morning - fresh, green and stimulating! Daniel |

| So glad you got such wonderful rain at last. Sorry about the scary lightening though, hope all the floor boards popped back into place !!! Those Pale headed rosellas are such lovely birds, so gentle and quiet , not at all like their noisy friends the lorikeets. Enjoy your lovely washed and watered garden. Marion |

| 118mm at Dicky Beach and the biggest light show I have ever seen - and I lived in Darwin for five years so I know what lightning is about. And it's just started raining again. I reckon two of my bananas have gown a metre over night - they both three up two new leave each. |

Glad to hear you've had some good rain at last MM. Hope the storm didn't create too much cleaning up to do though. I hope everyone else in need will get their quota soon. Cheers, Dee. |

| It was pretty severe out here Ipswich way, too. I was tempted to join the cat in the garage downstairs but I'd have to use the external stairs to get there. Was watching SBS when it suddenly went off air. A loud thunderclap had me turning off the TV and heading for the hallway, which seems the safest place because it doesn't have any windows. Never used to be scared of storms in Melb--not while I was safely inside--but they're so much closer here: the thunderclaps shook the very walls of the house (I had my back on a pillow leaning against the wall, and I felt the vibrations). Surprisingly, there was no loss of electricity but, when I went to watch my tape of Russian Dolls (taped on SBS at 10pm last night), all I got was a grey screen. Looks like SBS was still off air at that time. This morning on the train I saw kangaroos grazing around the Wacol prison and on the golf course ... |

| Er, I saw the kangaroos *from* the train, not on it ... |

| I find it hard to believe how much difference in rainfall over a few kms. My in-laws received 48mls, we had 4ml Friday night, and yesterday afternoon they had 41mls, we had 7mls. They live less than 10mins away. Not fair! Had some more overnight but haven't checked the gauge this morning yet - I don't want to be disappointed. |

| Hi GH...I can understand that but three doors down, my neighbour always has a reading in her gauge that is 8-9mm more than mine. I have one of the bigger gauges, I bought it when we lived in Nth Qld when we had to cope with 250mm or more in a day. I have it in the middle of the back yard where there are no trees, or buildings anywhere near it, like the instructions said. I dont know what I am doing wrong...Hubby reckons she must have hers on the exterior of her house or on a post where it is getting splash back. Today only 2.5mm in the Gauge at 5am, but since then is has been drizzling up to a light rain very overcast and grey 90% humidity and 22 degrees and dont the Plants love it me too, just hope that rain gets a lot heavier. Cheers..MM |

| Well done on the rain, pity about the rest. I was trying to pacify my Mum (who hates storms) by saying it was "just heat lightning". Well, for us, it was, and that night, minimal rain. We were blacked out 3 hours earlier but not due to storms, power just came on when the storm hit. Not much sleep that night. Amazing how one area can cop so much and others are left parched. Follow-up days we have had some useful rain and only mess, pity the people with hail and floodding. |

Yes! 39+ mm last 24 hours, the bulk of it accompanied by much electricity at around 4 am. The + because our gauge is in the wrong spot now the patio shade has grown up. Glad ds had a thrill for driving the fork into the backyard grassed area yesterday, it has soaked in well. Rose |

| MM and everyone in that area you are all SO lucky to get those storms and rain, I LOVE storms. We haven't had much rain lately here in the south west of WA, though not much heat either. It's all very strange weatherwise here this summer. Cheers, Jules |
