For those having trouble logging on

I read a post on the U.S. site that said user-names with any capital letters seem to be causing a problem. Just type in your regular user-name using lower case only and see if that helps.
Cheers,
Dee. |

| my observations for what they may be worth! they/them that runs this site have done something so their cookie is now not enabled or whatever you may want to call it, simply there is no cookie implanted into my/your temp i/net or cookies folders. and to get in first i have not changed any of my setting cookies from all other sites are being allocated and i don't intend to change my setting any further to suit these forums, guess when i get fed up enough with having to log on everytime i want to post i'll go elsewhere, there are plenty of other elsewhere's for us gardeners to hang out in. the need for greed! len |

| When I first joined GW way back at the start of this century, you had to log in every day. Most of my other stuff I need to log onto everyday, so it isn't such a big deal. I think we just get lazy about shuch things. |
RE: For those having trouble logging on

| g'day sparaxis, i'm on dial up so i am not online automatically all day long i disconnect at the end of each session, and of late each time i go back online and then go to gw to check a thread like now and i want to reply i have to login into gw all the time every time. i have been in these forums for a long time at least 6 years and have never had to log on as the cookie was saved. so today i have been here 3 times so i have had to loggin 3 times once a day would be a dream at the moment. len |
RE: For those having trouble logging on

| Sparaxis, It's not the logging in that I mind because I usually have to do that as I always delete cookies etc. everyday, it's all the other stuff. I tried to search for something the other day that I KNEW was there, but the search facility couldn't find it. Then there are the people who CAN'T log on (even if they don't mind actually doing it). Cases like Hollakes who apparently doesn't live in Aust. anymore! Etc, etc. Cheers, Dee. |

I am a naturally suspicious person and it has occurred to me (and others) that the management may want people to log on lots of times as they can then show their advertisers what a large amount of traffic these sites generate . Whereas we know its just the same people logging in. Sparaxis you look funny without your capital "S"! |

| Hi everyone, I have only been a member for about 3 weeks and I seem to be having a few difficulties, I log on as annette_h but my user name is coming up as annettensw, I've spent all weekend trying to sort it, even went to my journal and tried to email myself and got a GW error message saying they cant locate the user and as you can all see I'm still coming on as annettensw. I also tried to re-register and found that impossble, its quite frustrating! |

After a lot of trouble logging on I decided to re register. I found that while ever I left the state and zip code fields empty, my application was regected and, whenever I tried to delete the American states the page would disappear and I'd have to start all over again. Eventually I decided to click on Oregon, (since it's the only American state for which I know a zip code), my country was then changed to USA and my application accepted. I can only assume this has something to do with advertising, as only an audit of USA members would be of any interest, and worth the cost, to most American advertisers. My member page now shows me living in Oregon but my garden zone as the Blue Mountains, NSW Australia. Now, I think that brings a whole new meaning to the term "keen gardener". |
RE: For those having trouble logging on

| Good on you, well we have Bev in New York and you in Oregon both a long way from the NSW/VIC border and the Blue Mountains, Yes that does make you both keen gardeners...Well Done....Cheers..MM. |

Ah yes - I start to see the extent of the problem. I haven't spent much time here lately, and I find that the log in problem just makes me think twice about posting, and I generally don't bother. I have no trouble logging in, but just have better things to do. I notice that there are not so many postings lately either. I guess GW don't really care if they lose a few Aussies, because we do not buy the advertised products, and if we aren't paid members we give them no support whatsoever. The trouble is, to encourage paid membership you have to have a good solid membership base to start with, with lots of knowledgeable gardeners sharing their knowledge and ideas. This is what is lacking in all the other garden forums I have had anything to do with in Aus. I hope we don't lose too many because of this. Cheers, Jan |
RE: For those having trouble logging on
| | |
| exactly jan, perservering with this site hasn't quiet got me to my can't tollerate it level yet nearly did before i got firefox but all the pop ups trying to open still slow it a bit, and i tollerate the login problems because i feel the person asking the question should be helped where possible (at the end of the day this is all about gardening and helping). yes even though us aussie are never likley to do any click throughs (they get paid for them as well) and never likley to buy. enforced paid contribution won't work either as sites like this are only viable because there are the required equations those who want to help and those who need help all hand in glove. just there may be some "lets not kill the goose that laid the golden egg" thinking needed by those with the need for greed. when i see the dramatic drop off in posts in other forums i frequent in gw i can see the demise of the gw. anyhow there are other forums for us ardent gardeners. len |

| They're actually scrapping the paid memberships, so it's not that! The forums that used to require paid membership to post no longer do, and many who WERE paid members are grumbling that they're not enjoying the lack of ads that they had been promised. From what I can gather, though, Ivill@ge were actually taking people's money right up until the moment they implemented the change, or as good as! |

I have an 2 year old wisteria planted in the ground that is seemingly growing well from the two main growing shoots, inspite of the appalling weather we have had this summmer extreme aridity and very high temperatures for the last 4 weeks. But the side shoots seem to start well reach about 8 inches long then die back. Any suggestions for the cause? The wisteria is planted on the south side of the house, gets the morning sun, is watered because of the current conditions, and has been composted, mulched etc. in the spring. regards Dorothy |

RE: For those having trouble logging on

| I actually didn't have to log in today. Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel. I suppose when you think about the size of GW and what a massive job it would be to work on it, it wouldn't be hard to have some mistakes and hitches for a while. We may just have to have patience for a while. |
RE: For those having trouble logging on

| Same here,,But they still have not fixed up the "My Page " so we are still unable to e-mail anyone. Glad they are not Politicians then, They can't get it right either... |

RE: For those having trouble logging on

| Well I still can't get out of Oregon, although I'm sure GW would have no objection to me moving to another US state. It was my nerdy husband who suggested I re-enter and re-submit all my member information, and I must admit logging in has been fine since then. It's hard to understand how you can have a choice of countries but must give a US state and zip code, (which automatically changes your country to USA). Why bother with listing the other countries in the first place? You must also give your name now, which of course you can make up, so why make it compulsory? |
RE: For those having trouble logging on
| | |
| WB - I don't understand your problem. You appear above as wattleblossom BlueMtsNSW Aust. |
RE: For those having trouble logging on
| | |
Yes, Blue Mts NSW Aust is my gardening zone but my home page says I live in Oregon. I don't really see it as a problem, and I don't suppose anyone cares where I live. There may even be an Oregon in Australia. The problem is with the registration page, and anyone trying to join or change their details will encounter the same thing, i.e. that the information won't be accepted unless you click on an American state and supply the correct zip code. They actually tell you this now in their new "Terms of Service" page. I'm sure sooner or later it will be fixed , and it doesn't bother me, bit I'm sure some who don't have a US zip code handy will find it frustrating. In fact, I think by the sounds of some other posts, they already have. At least I can log in now without any trouble. And I'm sure Oregon is a very nice place. |
