 o
tree suggestion

Dear over-achieving green thumbs
Is there anyone in the internet who can suggest a tree that is evergreen, grows to 4-5m with spreading type habit (umbrella shape), doesn't have to be native, doesn't have to flower, fast growin' is good, and can stand wet conditions for a few days after it rains.
I'm to lazy and illiterate to research for myself.

RE: tree suggestion

Well, you could try a palm tree, bit skinny but spreads at the top! Maybe a calistemon (native, bottle brush) or grevillea banksia, nice red flowers in late winter, fast growing and a native; murraya, fairly dense all over if trimmed; crepe myrtle, I'd look for the 'Indian Summer' variety as they've been bred to be resistant to powdery mildew and red spider mite, I think, nice flowers and come in red, pink and white. What else, a wattle perhaps, various types'll grow to that size; one of the cassias; magnolia would like nice down there in the Illawarra district, especially the white 'yulan' tree magnolia denudata; any of the prunus family, p. campanulata is nice; malus floribunda, pink flower late winter; and a hundred or more others. Good luck.
