Indoor Plant help

Hi.
Im hoping someone could help me. We recently brought a house here in the Hunter Valley and are in the process of doing it up. The house can get fairly cold in the winter due to it having no insulation and very warm in the summer as expected. We are just beginners.
We love indoor plants but they seem to keep dying on us. We recently brought a birds nest fern and it is dying. The leaves are brown around the edges and curling up at the tips.
From what Ive read this seems to be from over watering, watering directly on the crown and lack of humidity. The leaves seem to be ok nearer the base.
Is there any chance of saving this plant or should I just cut my losses. I was wondering if I cut the leaves back would it grow back.
If not then could you recommend any plants that may suit our condition. Our house is fairly dark inside at the moment due to the choice of paint the previous owner had.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |
