Southern rata seeds

I live in Victoria, British Columbia, the mildest area of Canada in winter, and also coolish summers. The climate is similar to the south of the South Island. Having just returned from a delightful holiday in NZ, I'm very interested in trying to grow southern rata here from seed. In order to maximize the likelihood of survival, I would prefer seeds from a colder region and/or higher altitude. I'm uncertain if I have missed the seed harvest window for last year's flowering, but if any Kiwi gardeners can help me, I'd be very grateful. We have no possums here.

You might want to start with an email to tauponativeplant@clear.net.nz. They probably still have links to the South Island and could source/direct you to a supplier.

No response from Taupo Native Plants - not surprising since they are a big growing operation. I can't find any suppliers of seeds with rata seeds available. I was hoping someone might be able to go to the back of their property or a nearby wood and shake some seeds from a tree.
