Passionfruit, frosts& roses

Would a passionfruit survive Waikato winters? Unfortunately I don't have a sheltered spot, but would like to grow over a trellis between neighbours house & ours?
Also would like names of Roses that have a long flowering period. Thanks, Christine

The roses that flower a long time for me are Iceberg. Dublin Bay, golden Showers and Westerland, the last 3 climbers.
It might be worth a try to give a passion friut a go. Get some Frost cloth to cover it over the winter.
Have you asked on the forums on www.gardens.co.nz

Hey grannymum, some of us ex-pats go to the NZ forums just to see what is happening at home, it helps a bit with the dreaded homesickness - you were on the right site so help yourself to another G&T

Hi ya...as for frost and passionfrui..t nup.. they wont take the frosts...but if you plant the passionfruit under trees with dappled sunlight then this will work...shelter over the winter months is a priority...you may be able to get this from a frost clothe ...worth a try...chow...erphy on wingnutts computor

This link about P. Molissima had success in some colder areas.

RE: Passionfruit

I have a purple fruit passion fruit growing very vigourously and it's going to give us lots of fruit. Should it be cut back after fruiting - the lower stems seem to be loosing their leaves.

hi Grannymum,
How low does it get in a Waikato winter? There's a beautiful passion fruit growing over a brick wall and railing fence in a village locally to me and we regularily get down to -8/-10'C here in Burgundy. a few years ago we were at -12/-14'C for about 2weeks and I never expected to see it last summer. But it's back and this year has kept a lot of leaves throughout winter. It's amazing!
Hope it's not too late to make up your mind.
Caroline
