Maybe im old fashioned or not Pc but i would prefer to eat plain old beans instead of GE beans. Nothing tastes like a scarlet runner
Cheers Terry

Hi Terry, I agree about the taste but what if the bean was modified to resist frost damage or bug bite or whatever disagrees with scarlet runners, Yvonne.

I am in 2 minds on GE I don't like Scarlet Runner Beans anyway!
There are some things that might help with certain illnesses in people. This country used to ( probably still do ) spend more money on why sheep miscarry than they did on humans.

Yvonne good to see there is someone else looking in on this site too.We need a few more.

Terry, Yes I would worry about whose genes I was eating but no one is actually sugesting that sort of mixup really and the emotive side of putting toad genes into tomatoes etc is often a red herring. Sounds like >G.E. anyway doesnt it I thought herrings were yellow... I havent read the report but have been following a lot of the gene research stuff that has been published over the last 10 years in the herald. Hi Heather,. Cheers Yvonnej.

RE: G.E versUs no GE

I've always hoped that GE could be kept sane!
There's a lot of green leaf matter in our world's cereal crops which probably gets wasted! Imagine if with some GE the non-edible parts of our vegetable crops could be made edible also...? Imagine if the green carrot tops could be made tasty? Or the roots of tomato plants? Or if desert-surviving cactus plants bore edible fruit?!

RE: G.E verses no GE

HI all,

This is my first time on this forum,it's cool to see an NZ site.GE might kill your bugs on your runner beans,It may make your carrot tops tasty.Nuclear energy may create 500% more power than conventional energy supplies.Adding small amounts of potent chemicals in the form of (additive 103) to food helps it stay on the shelf for another 4 weeks before it spoils.

There is a certain patern here,70% of GE crops grown now are modified to be resistent to herbisides. So the farmer can spray as much of that rubbish on OUR food as he wants (and he does) and maybe it's not affecting us now but if NZ gets the OK we are gonna be paying through the nose for food that not covered in chemicals. The farmer will get richer but we will not get cheaper food.

As gardeners you all know that nature is a fine balance, and you upset that balance..ie..you spray pesticide on your vege's and you also kill the beneficial insects, thus the pests come back and are worse so you have to spray MORE pestercides and the cycle continues.

Lets enjoy nature the way it is, and I beleive with all it's up's and down's , nature is awesome, why would I ever want to stuff with it.

Yeah thats my say anyways.hehehe I'm very passionate about it as you can see

This Canadian web site is mind blowing with info on GE and I think this info should be put infront of EVERYONE before they make an opinion on GE

Cheers

Daniel
