In a pot I grew a Kaka Beak until to 1m hight. But after a fierce rainstrom it suddenly died. Could it be the overwatering from the rain?
Currently I grow two more little seedlings. I do not want to loose them again. Any suggustions what to do?? Thank yo.

Hi BrandtKarl,

How old was your plant? Kaka Beaks are shortlived plants at the best of times, frost tender and the favourite food of slugs and snails! They can also be very sensitive to their environment, I know of several which have died after water from washing vehicles drained into gardens. Your plant could have died due to a number of reasons but I think it's more than likely to have been the shock of having so much water in one go. I guess in the future, try to move your seedlings to a sheltered spot if there is a rainstorm.

Regards,
GF

P.S To combat their short life spans, keep propagating them!

I have a lovely one here which gets huge dollops of rain being the west coast and it doesn't seem to mind, but maybe it is climatised to it. I didn't know they were short lived, had mine 5 years or so now, lovely in early spring. I have propogated a few they are in pots so will dot some more around the section in case the big one dies.
