 o
spring!!!

It is Spring. Of course it is Spring. The temperature is swooping towards the frost point and I fired up the oil heaters today for the first time for weeks but it is Spring. Of course it is.

My paeonies have teeny little leaves and the bourganvillia has buds, the lawn has sprouted and the camellias are dropping and I have the urge to clean something. Must be Spring...

Of course it is.

Must be. Daffodil Day has been and gone, that's a sure sign. The Bank ladies have put all the fun stuff away and gone back to business as usual and what about that Lotto Jackpot? Definitely Spring fever. And all the really good stuff is starting to appear in the garden centres...as Heather will tell us, lol.

So...

What are you guys planting?

RE: spring!!!

My blueberry has got buds, my daffodils are flowering and everythings green, so yeah it must be!
I haven't planted anything yet. I'm going to order a whole lot of vegetable plants from GinnysHerbs. Off topic does anyone know when to plant zucchini plants outside in Wellington?

I dunno Soot. Is it advisable to plant anything outside in Wellington?

RE: spring!!!

No, there nothing lower than the Bombay Hills is there ?
Lots of lovely heavy dew on the ground this morning.the roses are in full leaf, especially those that didn't get pruned.
Lots of Flowering Cherry Trees in bloom and the Magnolias are something else, not that I would grow one in suburbia as they only flower for such a short time.
Lachenalias abound in the older gardens, hard to believe the bulbs are so dear to buy.
My cat is scooting through the house then outside and up into the trees.
The ducks at Unitec are pairing up.
A Pohutakawa tree in Unitec grounds is in 'flower'
Spring is definitely in Auckland.

Lachenalias do better in Auckland than they do here in the Deepest, and over the generations of gardening women in this family they are spread through Howick, Pakuranga, Royal Oak, Remuera, Epsom and the North Shore before hitting Taupo and now here in the heart of Marlborough.
Seems the older variety, the yellow and orange 'soldiers' were catastrophically affected by a virus blight in the commercial nurseries four or five years ago, and most bulbs now are from the imported replacement stock. Maybe they'll get cheaper as they get more popular. The worst thing is the size of the bulbs in those packets!!! You need a magnifying glass to find the things and planting anything that size has to be a right way up/wrong way up guess...

But you know my favourites have to be muscari... mass planted, you cannot beat that blue. And the white ones are worth having too, if only I could get mine to bloom...

My Scottish Aunt in Edinburgh, is planning her bulb purchases right now, that has to mean Spring is just around the corner, surely. I must learn patience.
