Hi
Sorry I've taken awhile to get back to you. We arrived home both with the worst flu ever after getting it the second day of our arrival. I've never had anything so ghastly so it did put a blight on the entire holiday. Anyway we did get to the beautiful Maihinapua Roto Lake, Lake Mathieson, the amazing Dunrobbin Plains, pretty areas around Athol and Tautpere, and of course the magnificent Sounds. We didn't get to many gardens unfortunately but the beautiful gardens of Glenfalloch at Dunedin were a highlight (would love to see it in Spring). Can anyone tell me the name of the plant that had about three giant leaves, easily a metre across. The entire plant felt sandpapery and one frond alone was taller than my husband.
You have the most beautiful country and it was a pity we were a bit early to see much snow. Queenstown Harbor at night, The Albatross (we were lucky enough to see 7 land), the amazing Lake Tekapo and the views toward Kaikoura-sigh! I'm ramblimg on down memory lane now. Thanks so much and I can definately say our highlight was meeting the nicest chatty people ever.
Thanks so much Mrs B |

Looks like big rubarb leaves?, the name just won't pop into my head. Fast becoming an unwanted plant here, or one variety is. Will get the books out. Talk about senior moments. Heather |

Hi Mrs B. If you get to go back to Southland you just have to go and see a garden there called Maple Glen. I've travelled quite a bit around the world and have yet to see a more interesting or more beautiful garden. Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh home, I do still miss it! |

| Sorry about the delay in reply, have just got back from holidays. Well it will be a while before we get back to NZ but I even like the sound of the garden name - Maple Glen. Just what took your fancy in this garden?? |

| So sorry, I haven't been on-line for a while. Maple Glen has an amazing amount of different Maples, Rhododendrons Azaleas, beautiful spring bulbs and just the most relaxed friendly atmosphere, I tend to visit every time I go home and they always seem to have new areas under way. There is a lovely little lake with ducks living on it. Seems to be a popular place to take seniors on days out from nursing homes. I have some photos I could send you. Will try and get them done today. |

| Abit of useless information for those folks living outside N.Z... Gunnera Tinctata? possibly the one you are waxing lyrical about has been declared to be a noxious plant in at least this part of the country (Auckland). This is because it is spreading out of control along the coastline of Taranaki. I'm told that G. manacata is ok. as it's seed does not germinate so freely. G. manacata is almost identicle in appearance. Philip |
