Wood Ash

I have started putting Wood Ash from the fire each day (I only burn wood in the fireplace) here and there round the garden. I wonder if it is beneficial to any particular plant - e.g. Roses ?

My mother collects all her neighbours ashes (wood only) as she says it's high in ?Potash. I think every part of her garden gets a dosage of ash!

Really good on roses in late summer. Helps to harden off the wood in autumn to reduce frost damage. And on the plot waiting for the tomatoes.

I had some worries about putting it near Rhodos because of the alkaline condition of the ash but, so far, no ill effects at all.

And the charcoal pieces help to soak up any sourness, too.

Not on windy days, though...:-)
