The leaves are falling in Auck too, it can be the now very dry weather and the trees abort the leaves to save their energy. There is a liquidamber tree near here that is showing it's autumn colours too!!

Thanks Kiwi.Oz, unfortunately these two trees have been in Autumn mode a lot earlier than all our other trees and we were concerned for their health. Maybe its just where they are situated they get colder than some of the other trees.

Interesting climate fluctuations have a spring flowering viburnum and a tulip magnolia re-flowering here at present. Some local elm and poplar trees are exihbiting similar behavior to yours, yvonne. Don't know of any remedies....maybe a raindance or two might help.

Thanks mutzi, Ill put the worry on hold and see what happens next year. The elm is such a lovely tree we would hate to think it was sick and we didnt do something. Iv noticed the other dogwoods are starting to look a little autumnal too.So early autumn and funny weather patterns will be blamed.

I have a fig tree in Auckland that is bare apart from the fruit. All the leaves have fallen. Never happened before. There is usually still a good covering of leaves on it at this time. I was worried about it too but I guess it's this weird weather.

We have a large row of poplars along our driveway and in mid feb they started dropping leaves in a wind, now they are totally yellow and our driveway is totally covered in leaves,I have spent most of the day raking them and burrying them in the veggie garden.Wheather you like it or not,Autumn is here and it has come early.Get them leaves into your garden..

Thanks everyone for the reassurance. Our other trees are starting to lose their leaves too and they all cant be ailing. Ive got other things in the garden behaving in an unseasonally fashion so guess its just the lack of summer.
