gardens to see in march?

Hi all , I am planning a trip to NZ this march ( feb 27-march12) and am wondering about gardens to visit? we are planning to visit both islands. i would like to see trevor griffiths rose garden . would they still be blooming? i would also love to know of other good places. I am so excited about visiting! Thanks in advance for any info!

Have a look at www.gardens.co.nz. There's a link in the text (not too far down the page) for gardens to visit that might be useful for you.

I also found www.dayout.co.nz which gave similar information.

I noticed you were a rose fan. You might enjoy the Nancy Steen Rose Garden in Auckland. She authored 'The Charm of Old Roses' and made many trips to collect antique roses from old settlements around New Zealand.

Another possible is Egmont Roses in Taranaki - which is a nursery business. I believe they also do 'old' roses and Austin roses.

Other gardens which may be of interest - Ayrlies, Moss Green (which is more for woodland plants), the various city botanical gardens.

You might also want to google on the various societies and make contact with the secretaries to see what they would suggest.

Hope that gives you a few starters.

PS remember to bring a raincoat and a sweater. The weather's been a bit changeable this summer.
