Try a garden center that gets product from Monrovia, and ask them to see what they can get from them. Most of the larger boxwoods I've seen come from Monrovia--15 gallons--they are not going to be cheap, though, that's why they are not common in garden centers--few people are willing to spend a lot of $$ for a common shrub. The fancy-shmansy nursery nearby sells 15 gallon ones from Monrovia, and they are pretty pricey.

Not all rhododendrons and azaleas here have root rot either, not all roses have black spot and so on. It does not automatically follow that if a plant is a certain kind and certain problems are seen on that kind in a region, that every specimen will be afflicted. In the case of water molds the specimen has to become infested first, before the disease develops. As common as a particular strain may become at a particular time, not everyone gets the flu either.

I'll say upfront that I don't have experience with boxwood, but looking at the plant on Monrovia's site it says needs protection from winter winds. I don't know that the cold will be as much an issue as wind. I think they'll get freeze dried. Still, if you must have the plant, go for it, just don't put in a hedge of 30 of them. Hi! I hope you have the non-invasive bamboos. When I planted my hedge of arborvitaes, I did asked my left & right neighbors if they were fine with it. I also planted them a foot away from the my property line. with the height, it depends if your neighbors will complain if its too high. if they don't then you just have the best privacy hedge you ever wished for. good luck!
