Native hibiscus: H. heterophyllus 'Abbey's Tangerine'

| OK, I've sorted out the photos. This one is 'Abbey's Tangerine', not orange at all but a luscious watermelon colour that can look like silk in certain conditions. The leaves and stems are prickly, the flowers are unscented and last only a day--actually, maybe half a day in full sun--but they're very pretty. My plants have overwintered in pots under the eaves but I'm told they should be able to withstand the occasional winter frost we get here, so I'll be planting them out sometime in the next few months. |

Another pretty one and a great colour too, certainly looks more like a watermelon colour. What a shame the flowers don't last very long do they have a long flowering season like the other Hibiscus |

| Yes a very pretty little flower, shame it is prickly though but I suppose that is to stop insects climbing them, I wonder if it does? |

| Er, the leaves can get attacked by a caterpillar, so it doesn't stop the insects from flying onto them ;-( (Or the hatched caterpillars from munching on the leaves.) So I guess not! |
