Homoranthus papillatos

Strange things are happening: I posted a picture of a banksia I took today but when I checked to see if it had loaded I couldn't find it! Nor could I find again Chas latest pic of his red camellia! What's happening? Ok, well, to see if it happens again, I've processed through to post a picture of a West Aussie native that I'm training as an in-ground bonsai type thing; Homoranthus papilatos. Dunno if it'll post or not? In my experience strange things happen with this site sometimes. Bit like us all being residents of the USA, I guess!

It certainly is looking gnarled and old Bill. Good luck.

Yeah, it's about 8 years in, Chas. It mostly forms a bush with somewhat insignificant flowers. This one though has suffered a bit from the extended dry period, so I've pruned and shaped it. Foliage is quite attractive, and quite similar to H. flavescens, a NSW variety (Papilatus is a Qld variety), which I also have in. Tell you the truth it's not easy to tell the difference between them. I think the only difference really is the depth of colour in the foliage. They are both appealing. Mind you, I should add taxonomists may now have classed them as one and the same.

That is awesome! Does it have deliciously sweet smelling flowers like flavescens?

Well it might have, don't recall seeing any flowers last year, I guess on account of the drought. They are rather tiny anyway and I've never bent over to sniff them. I'll try and remember to do that, could be getting ready to flower around now, I think it's autumn they flower here.
