Mystery Tree 2

Here is the other tree we have on our grandson's property. It is very attractive and compact. We have had 2 crops of ?berries/seeds on it since August. They are just like green olives when they first appear then change to yellow then red.

RE: Mystery Tree 2

Sorry, the photo is a bit small do you have a larger shot of the fruits? Do you know how tall the tree is and whether the berries split open to produce seeds? Or, do you suspect it is a native tree or an introduced species - does your gs know?

I can't tell from the picture what it might be but I thought your first mystery tree might be that pink cassia, C. javanica, though Ballarat might be a bit cool in winter for a cassia. There is a discussion on it in the 'Trees and Shrubs' forum. Megmac, have you tired the Photobucket site as a means of posting photos?

Regards.
B.

RE: Mystery Tree 2

Tree 2 is about 3.5-4.0mt high. The fruit is sweet to taste when red. Not much pulp with a stone? similar to nectarines inside. Sorry, the fruit is red, then goes yellow. I don't think it is a native tree. Our Granddaughter says it was here when they bought the place from an elderly lady who had lived here a long time. I didn't try the fruit, our son-in-law did. I will try to post another more close-up photo of the fruit.
