We will be harvesting our Elephant or Chive or Russian garlic soon, and if anyone would like some, then they could email me.

Be well,
Charlie

Hi Charlie
I'd love some of your elephant garlic, but have nothing to trade being a new gardener just getting established.
cheers

Hi Joan,

Don't worry about that. Depending on how many cloves or bulbs you want. Just send us what you reckon in stamps to cover postage, and we will send them to you.

They are only small cloves, which can be eaten, but are best planted any time after they arrive, to grow on next year. I assume that you know Elephant/Chive/Russian garlic is not as strong as the other garlics, and the "aroma" doesn't transfer through your skin like the more common garlic varieties.

The cloves are much larger and the bulbs can be as large as a saucer grown under the best possible conditions. Ours are organically grown, and they thrive here but are usually arrested far short of their full potential due to lack of water. Apparently the first plants were brought into this area round Cassilis by the miners that came here from overseas to work in the mines.

It has been said that garlic is as good as ten mothers, and the cloves of these are very large and have a thicker covering at the clove which makes them easy to peel.

Hope that is sufficient information.

Be well,
Charlie
