| I have about 30 packets of tomato seeds that I purchased from Sandhill Preservation in the US, and some of them are getting a little old (and therefore slow to germinate). I'm growing a few of them myself this year, but I have more than I can manage and don't want the seeds to lose viability by waiting any longer to be planted. They are not available here in Australia, so for us they are quite rare! The goal is to save fresh seeds and offer them to others here or elsewhere, and I'd like some fresh seeds myself if you are able to save some after your harvest.
If anyone would like to try their hand at germinating some older seeds, you are welcome to some. I'd be happy to send 5 varieties per person. Sorry, I don't have time to list them, but I'd try to give you different fruit colours and sizes, depending on what's left.
It will greatly increase your germination if you soak these seeds overnight before planting! I just add a few drops of water directly into the ziploc bags and leave them overnight, but sometimes it's tricky fishing them out in the morning because they tend to stick to the plastic, so I add a bit more water and drain them into a tea strainer Some of you might still have my address, so if you are interested, just send a SASE and write "old tomatoes" on the back of the envelope (otherwise I might think you're sending a SASE for chillies or other tomatoes I offered earlier). Anyone else, just email me and I'll let you know where to send the SASE, and please excuse me for simply replying with my address and nothing else... I'm flat out with seeds at present, but don't want these to go to waste!
